The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) leads the national effort to understand, manage, and reduce risk to our cyber and physical infrastructure. We connect our stakeholders in industry and government to each other and to resources, analyses, and tools to help them build their own cyber, communications, and physical security and resilience, in turn helping to ensure a secure and resilient infrastructure for the American people [1] # CISA Free Cybersecurity Services and Tools On 09/24/2022 CISA posted about tools and techniques to use for cybersecurity.[2] > As part of our continuing mission to reduce cybersecurity risk across U.S. critical infrastructure partners and state, local, tribal, and territorial governments, CISA has compiled a list of free cybersecurity tools and services to help organizations further advance their security capabilities. This living repository includes cybersecurity services provided by CISA, widely used open source tools, and free tools and services offered by private and public sector organizations across the cybersecurity community. CISA will implement a process for organizations to submit additional free tools and services for inclusion on this list in the future. ## General CISA Cybersecurity Guidelines 1. '''Fix''' the known security flaws in software. Check the [https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) Catalog] [3] for software used by your organization and, if listed, update the software to the latest version according to the vendor’s instructions. Note: CISA continually updates the KEV catalog with known exploited vulnerabilities. 2. Implement '''[https://www.cisa.gov/mfa multifactor authentication (MFA)][4]'''. Use multifactor authentication where possible. MFA is a layered approach to securing your online accounts and the data they contain. When you enable MFA in your online services (like email), you must provide a combination of two or more authenticators to verify your identity before the service grants you access. Using MFA protects your account more than just using a username and password. Why? Because even if one factor (like your password) becomes compromised, unauthorized users will be unable to meetthe second authentication requirement, ultimately stopping them from gaining access to your accounts. 3. '''Halt''' [https://www.cisa.gov/BadPractices bad practices][5]. Take immediate steps to: (1) replace end-of-life software products that no longer receive software updates; (2) replace any system or products that rely on known/default/unchangeable passwords; and (3) adopt MFA (see above) for remote or administrative access to important systems, resources, or databases. 4. '''Sign up''' for CISA’s Cyber Hygiene Vulnerability Scanning. Register for this service by emailing [email protected]. Once initiated, this service is mostly automated and requires little direct interaction. CISA performs the vulnerability scans and delivers a weekly report. After CISA receives the required paperwork, scanning will start within 72 hours and organizations will begin receiving reports within two weeks. Note: vulnerability scanning helps secure internet-facing systems from weak configurations and known vulnerabilities and encourages the adoption of best practices. 5. [https://www.cisa.gov/publication/stuff-off-search Get your Stuff Off Search (S.O.S.)][6]. While zero-day attacks draw the most attention, frequently, less complex exposures to both cyber and physical security are missed. Get your Stuff Off Search–S.O.S.–and reduce internet attack surfaces that are visible to anyone on web-based search platforms. # CISA Tool Recommendations ## Reducing the Likelihood of a Damaging Cyber Incident | Service | Skill Level | Owner | Description | Link | | —————————————————————————– | ———– | —————————- | —————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————– | ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————– | | Network Reporting | Basic | ShadowServer | A subscription service that sends custom remediation reports to inform organizations about the state of its networks and security exposures. | [https://www.shadowserver.org/what-we-do/network-reporting/ Network Reporting | The Shadowserver Foundation] | | Vulcan Cyber | Basic | Remedy Cloud | A searchable database of remedies and fixes for thousands of known vulnerabilities. Who is CISA

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) leads the national effort to understand, manage, and reduce risks to the cyber and physical infrastructure of the United States. It connects stakeholders in industry and government with resources, analyses, and tools to improve their cyber, communications, and physical security and resilience. CISA Free Cybersecurity Services and Tools

On September 24, 2022, CISA released a list of free cybersecurity tools and services:

> "As part of our continuing mission to reduce cybersecurity risk across U.S. critical infrastructure partners and state, local, tribal, and territorial governments, CISA has compiled a list of free cybersecurity tools and services to help organizations further advance their security capabilities. This living repository includes cybersecurity services provided by CISA, widely used open-source tools, and free tools and services offered by private and public sector organizations across the cybersecurity community." General CISA Cybersecurity Guidelines

 1. Fix known security flaws in software by referencing the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog. Regularly update software to the latest versions as per vendor instructions.
 2. Implement multifactor authentication (MFA). MFA requires two or more authenticators to verify identity, providing enhanced protection over just a username and password.
 3. Halt bad practices such as using end-of-life software, systems with default passwords, and lacking MFA for critical systems.
 4. Sign up for CISA’s Cyber Hygiene Vulnerability Scanning by emailing [email protected]. Weekly reports help secure internet-facing systems.
 5. Get your Stuff Off Search (S.O.S.) by reducing internet-visible attack surfaces. Learn more at Get Your Stuff Off Search (S.O.S.).
