Awards with a little help

There are two main sections. The human section for human focused audiences and then the templates intended for using with AI.

Questions to Help Write an Award

What specific actions did the individual perform that warrant recognition? - Example: What specific actions or achievements did the service member accomplish that stand out?

What impact did the individual’s actions have on the mission, unit, or broader organization? - Example: How did the service member’s actions contribute to the success of the mission or improve the performance of the unit?

Were there any challenges or obstacles the individual had to overcome? - Example: Did the service member face any significant challenges, and how did they overcome them?

Did the individual demonstrate any particular qualities or skills that were crucial to their success? - Example: What specific qualities, skills, or expertise did the service member demonstrate that were critical to their achievements?

Were there any collaborations or interactions with other units or organizations? - Example: Did the service member work with other units or organizations, and how did these interactions contribute to their success?

What is the overall significance of the individual’s actions? - Example: Why are the service member’s actions significant, and how do they reflect the values and traditions of military service?

Steps to Follow

Acronyms:

  1. Only use acronyms when they appear more than once in the citation.
  2. Spell out acronyms the first time they are used, except for standard Army acronyms.

Spacing:

  1. Be consistent with spacing throughout the entire award citation.
  2. Use one or two spaces after each period.

Numbers:

  1. Spell out numbers zero through nine.
  2. Use numerals for numbers 10 - 999,999.
  3. For numbers above 999,999, use numerals followed by million or billion (e.g., $1.5M, $2K, 40%).
  4. If more than one number is used in a single sentence and one of those numbers is 10 or greater, use numerals for all numbers.

Ranks:

  1. Always abbreviate ranks in the achievement blocks (e.g., SGM, CPT).
  2. Do not use first names.

Service Member References:

  1. Refer to service members by their correct service (e.g., Airman for Airforce personnel).
  2. Capitalize terms like Soldier, Airman, etc.
